Mexico and Jordan celebrated fifty years of diplomatic relations by dropping a giant, brightly colored horse sculpture into the heart of Amman like an unexpected housewarming gift. The Mexican Embassy and the city municipality unveiled “El Caballito” by artist Sebastián as an official present from the Mexican people to the Hashemite Kingdom. The ceremony unfolded in Shibli Bisharat Park on Rainbow Street, gathering diplomats, cultural figures and a few nostalgic Mexicans who probably just wanted an excuse to gather.
Ambassador Jacob Prado presented the replica, noting that the two nations have built a bond rooted in mutual respect and expanding cooperation across many areas. He framed the sculpture as a symbolic link between Amman and Mexico City, turning public art into a quiet form of diplomacy that avoids the usual paperwork. Mayor Yousef Al-Shawarbeh welcomed the piece as a fresh landmark that enriches the city’s urban landscape and public art scene, praising Sebastián’s international reputation for monumental works that play with color, movement and identity.
Sebastián remarked that art acts as a universal language capable of strengthening ties and crossing borders where official speeches often fall flat. The installation adds another burst of creativity to one of Amman’s most vibrant cultural corridors, proving that sometimes a towering horse can say more about friendship than any formal agreement ever manages to express.
